LIBRARIES IN THE DIGITAL AGE (LIDA) 2014 Zadar, Croatia 16 - 20 June 2014
Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) is a biennial
international conference that focuses on the transformation of libraries
and information services in the digital environment. In recognition of
evolving online and social technological influences that present both
challenges and opportunities, “ASSESSMENT” is the theme for LIDA 2014.
The conference theme is divided into two parts. The first part
addresses advances in qualitative assessment methods and practices and
the second part covers assessment methods involving alternative metrics
based on social media and a wider array of communicative activities,
commonly referred to as “altmetrics.” While qualitative methods have a
long tradition of application, altmetrics are a set of new approaches
to filtering information and to evaluating scholarly communication and
research, with possible application to libraries as well. LIDA 2014
brings together researchers, educators, and practitioners from all over
the world in a forum for personal exchanges, discussions, and
learning, made memorable by being held in an enchanting and
spectacularly beautiful city on the shore of the Adriatic Sea.

18th International Conference on Electronic Publishing June 19-20, 2014 - Thessaloniki, Greece
The International
Conference on Electronic Publishing (Elpub) enters its 18th year. Elpub
2014 will continue the tradition, bringing together researchers,
lecturers, librarians, developers, entrepreneurs, users and all other
stakeholders interested in issues regarding electronic publishing in
widely differing contexts. These include the human, cultural, economic,
social, technological, legal, commercial and other relevant aspects that
such an exciting theme encompasses.
Elpub 2014 will particularly focus on the openness and use of research data as well as new and innovative publishing paradigms. We welcome presentations and discussions that demonstrate the role of cultural heritage and service organizations in the creation, accessibility, curation and long term preservation of data. We aim to provide a forum for discussing appraisal, citation and licensing of research data. Also, what is new with reviewing, publishing and editorial technology in a data-centric setting?
We invite contributions from members of the communities whose research and experiments are transforming the nature of electronic publishing and scholarly communication.

EBLIDA - NAPLE Conference - Athens - 14 May 2014
The word of invitation
Dear colleagues, Dear EBLIDA members, Dear Friends
It is my pleasure to welcome you all in Athens, for the 22nd EBLIDA-NAPLE Annual Conference.
By
the title “Libraries in Transition. Changes? Crisis? Chances!”, EBLIDA,
NAPLE and EEBEP, we want to state that hope is still here for libraries
and librarians in the 21st Century.
In
times that the economic crisis coexists with a political crisis
throughout Europe, it is our duty, as Library professionals, to work
together for our communities within our
communities with solidarity. By solidarity, I want to emphasise that we
have to be present, always, no matter how different the conditions are.
To paraphrase a famous song by Bob Dylan, I believe that Libraries,
they are a-changin’. IN fact, they’ve been “a-changin’” for centuries!
Libraries and librarians have always been adapting to new environment.
This profession is flexible enough to cope with the current depressing
situation and reverse it by coming-up with new proposals, ideas and
models.
We are building a great programme for you that is going to be available soon at: http:// eblida2014.eebep.gr/.
Kind regards,
Giorgos Glossiotis, President of the EEBEP

| Two
years ago, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation conceived the idea to
contribute to the development of a public and municipal libraries
network all around Greece, in order to enhance the significance of the
libraries, as learning centers and places of creativity and interaction,
in people's minds. Future Library was born in Veria, in 2011, with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation being its exclusive donor. Soon it emerged as a living community which constantly embraces new cities, familiarizes their residents with the libraries and aspires to be linked to the National Library of Greece, once the latter moves to its new premises at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Since 2011, the team of Future Library, in collaboration with the libraries which participate in its network, has organized more than 5.800 events in more than 100 Greek cities, with 110.000 participants in total.
December 9 & 10, 2013, the 2nd Future Library Unconference 2013
Benaki Museum
Over 400 guests, thinkers and doers from the global creative community will come together in the Benaki Museum for the 2nd Future Library Unconference, to participate in numerous stages and workshops, interact and exchange ideas with creative professionals.
Scholarships for Balkan nationals have been provided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and for Members of the Europeana Awareness Public Library Network by the Europeana. For the duration of the Unconference, participants may book their stay, upon availability, in several hotels around Athens, in special discounted rates. The schedule will be announced progressively and will be full of surprises.
December 6 & 7, 2013, "Creativity Marathon"
Side Events
The Creativity Marathon marks the official launch of the Medial Labs, in nine (9) Public and Municipal Libraries in Drama, Levadia, Nafpaktos, Kozani, Trikala, Corinth, Keratsini-Drapetsona, Helioupolis and Chania. These libraries are being transformed into modern, friendly and pleasant places, with the support of Google, Aarhus Public Libraries and the Mozilla Foundation. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is the project's exclusive donor. Make, learn, play, relax, share are the five key words which describe the spirit of the Media Labs ! Co-working, brainstorming, relaxing, meeting, reading, web browsing spaces and even studios, where anyone can record, edit and create his own video, all together make up a completely different version of the library, just like the Future Library team dreamt of and made it happen, through the Media Labs. |

22nd EBLIDA - NAPLE Conference Athens 2014
Αγαπητοί συνάδελφοι,Το ΔΣ της Ένωσης Ελλήνων Βιβλιοθηκονόμων και Επιστημόνων Πληροφόρησης με ιδιαίτερη χαρά και τιμή σας ανακοινώνει ότι ανέλαβε την διεξαγωγή του 22ου Συνεδρίου της European Bureau of Library Information and Documentation Associations( EBLIDA) - National Authorities on Public Libraries in Europe(NAPLE).
